Your City Doesn’t Stand a Chance

For those who are praying for revival and regional transformation, your city doesn’t stand a chance against the coming move of God! You see, “the kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three pecks of flour until it was all leavened,” (Matthew 13:33). Once a little bit of leaven is present, it spreads through the entire loaf. It is an irreversible force that must be reckoned with.

When Jesus came to this Earth, it was just Him against the world. A common calculation for the world population in His day is 300 million people. That is a ratio of 1:300,000,000. Did Jesus measure Himself as one versus the world and consider how monstrously outnumbered He was?

Making Bread Series 009No. Jesus paid no attention to the odds played against Him. He measured Himself by the magnitude of God in His life. He started a movement called “the kingdom of God.” It began with one man. But the kingdom works like leaven in dough. That which was only in Jesus soon spread to 12; then to 70; then to 120; then to thousands; then to nations. By this time today, every single nation in the world has God’s people infecting its environment with the leaven of His kingdom.

Do not despise these small beginnings…” (Zecheriah 4:10 NLT). God would only say something like this because He knows that small doesn’t stay small long in His kingdom.

The same force that was in Christ and is spreading through the entire globe is working within you. “Christ in you, the hope of glory,” (Colossians 1:27). The glorious presence of Christ lives in you, and He is releasing His kingdom everywhere.

Rather than focusing on being outnumbered and measuring yourself in the meager minority, measure yourself by the magnitude of God who is inside you. After all, “greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world,” (1 John 4:4). When you have Jesus and His kingdom working within you, you are in the majority.

Keep praying and believing that God will reveal His glory in your hometown. Don’t pray it like you are begging God to do something that He is not already doing. Instead:

  • Pray with a belief that He is already doing it and you are coming into partnership with Him.
  • Believe that He has stationed you in your area so that your prayers and declarations can release the leavening power of His kingdom around you.
  • Believe that an irreversible force to be reckoned with is expanding around you and transforming your region.

It is leaven. It is the kingdom. Your city really doesn’t stand a chance to remain the same as long as you are praying nearby.
